Abdication of the Tsar, Feb./March Revolution 1917
-Russia had been suffering from economic and social problems originating from the impact of WWI.
-Disapproval of the Tsar led to the revolution which started with riots and strikes in Petrograd.
-No leadership or formal planning in the revolution. It fell into a state of chaos.
-Following the revolution they named it Leningrad for much of the cold war.
-In this revolution the Tsar was overthrown (abdication)
-This revolution was known as the Feb/Mar revolution because of the difference in calendars (Gregorian/Julian).
-Aimed to replace him with a Provisional Government led by Prince Georgy Lvov. Was an alliance between liberals and socialists who wanted political reform.
-Diarchy ensues (Some supported Tsar while others supported provisional government)
