-At first, Sun Yat Sen led the Kuomintang (KMT). Kuomintang means "Chinese Nationalist Party".

-Chiang Kai-Shek became the leader of the Kuomintang after Sun Yat Sen died in 1925.
-He controlled China south of the Yangste River.
-Mao Zadong, a Communist, was the leader of propaganda.
-Chiang got rid of the Communists in his party, killing many, forcing Mao to flee to a remote part of China.
